Job Summary:
The Marine Cargo Inspector is responsible for conducting inspections on marine cargo shipments to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, as well as assessing and reporting any damages or discrepancies. This role involves working closely with shipping and logistics teams to verify cargo quantity, quality, and packaging, ensuring safe and efficient transportation of goods by sea.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Perform thorough inspections of marine cargo shipments to ensure compliance with industry regulations, international standards, and company policies.
2. Inspect cargo containers, including seals, labels, and packaging, to ensure integrity and suitability for transportation.
3. Verify cargo documentation and ensure accuracy in terms of cargo descriptions, quantities, weights, and dimensions.
4. Examine cargo for damage, leakage, or other issues, and report findings accurately and promptly.
5. Inspect and monitor the loading and unloading of cargo, ensuring proper handling procedures are followed to prevent damage or accidents.
6. Collaborate with shipping agents, freight forwarders, and other stakeholders to resolve any cargo-related issues and address customer concerns.
7. Maintain detailed inspection records, including photographs and written reports, and ensure timely submission to relevant parties.
8. Stay updated on industry regulations, safety protocols, and best practices related to marine cargo inspections.
9. Participate in training programs to enhance knowledge and skills related to cargo inspection techniques and equipment.
10. Adhere to company policies, safety guidelines, and ethical standards while carrying out all inspection activities.
11. Communicate effectively with internal teams, external partners, and customers to provide accurate and timely information regarding cargo inspections.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
2. Proven experience in marine cargo inspection or a related field is preferred.
3. Sound knowledge of maritime operations, cargo handling techniques, and international shipping regulations.
4. Familiarity with different types of cargo, packaging materials, and their associated risks.
5. Strong attention to detail and exceptional observational skills to identify potential issues or discrepancies.
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare accurate reports and effectively communicate findings to stakeholders.
7. Proficiency in using relevant inspection tools, equipment, and software applications.
8. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
9. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities to address unexpected situations during cargo inspections.
10. Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to upholding ethical standards.
